Connectivity:

7th Gate is backed up by great corporate entities providing backbone connectivity to the Internet. Some of our machines are running on a full OC-12 connection directly to our ATM fiber node. With our connections, we have up to 150,000 possible routes to send each packet of traffic. We provide bandwidth-on-demand connections. These lines can handle several times the bandwidth of an OC3. So whatever your bandwidth needs are, we have the scalability to meet them!  [ index ]

Server Configuration:

What are we using to host our accounts? 7th Gate runs Linux and UNIX with Apache to ensure the highest levels of performance and reliability. 450Mhz Pent II processors with 512MB of physical memory each make up the hardware that provides industrial strength hosting by any standard.  [ index ]

How Long does it take to set up my account?

Accounts requested by 4:00pm CST weekdays will be set up by the same evening. Accounts requested after that time will be set up the next business day (by evening). Once the account is set up, we will send a confirmation email to the Primary contact email address.  Accounts will be accessible through a temporary IP address while the domain is being registered or moved.

Do you allow adult content?

Definitely not. Why? We're not prudes, but in our experience, we've found these types of sites pull a lot of bandwidth because of the tremendous amount of daily hits, and use up tons of machine resources. Thus, pulling away from machine performance for the other customers on the server. Since our prime objective is to keep our existing customers as happy as possible, we cannot allow any one single customer to jeopardize the site performance for the rest. Sorry.  [ index ]

How do I send files up to my site?

Most people use an FTP Client (file transfer protocol) to transfer files to and from their Web sites.  We recommend either WS FTP or Absolute FTP, both excellent programs, and not expensive.  In the alternative, you can use the File Manager from within your control panel to upload files to your Web site.  However, the upload system inside your control panel will only upload one file at a time, therefore, if you have several megabytes of files to transfer, this approach is not feasible.   [ index ]

Do you support Telnet?

For security reasons we use SSH (secure shell). Without compromising our servers or customers, SSH performs and functions the same as telnet. In fact, in many instances, the results and ease of use are 10 times better. The main difference is that while Telnet transmits information in regular text format, SSH encrypts, therefore affording us maximum security.  [ index ]

How do I install a counter?

Counters are set up through your control panel.  Please refer to our Tools Section for specific counter setup information.  [ index ]

If I have more than one domain with 7th Gate, do I get a discount?

Yes.  The first domain is hosted at the regular package price, thereafter, you receive a 40% discount on all additional domains.  This does not include pointed or parked domains.  [ index ]

What are my billing options if I don't want to use a credit card?

You can either pay by credit card, electronic check (debited from your checking account), or you may send in a money order.  When sending in a money order, payment must be received in advance.  Alternatively, you can opt to be invoiced, however, invoicing is done on an annual basis only, and in advance.  [ index ]

Do I get a discount for paying in advance?

Yes.  Either a 10% or 15% discount depending on the type of account you have.  Discounts apply only to semi-annual and annual payments, do not apply to invoicing methods of payment, and are subject to change at the discretion of 7th Gate Web without notice.  [ index ]
